It's not secret that I'm a little bit obsessed with painting kingfishers. I love the colours, the marriage of blue/turquoise and bright orange - not only is it beautiful to look at, but they're complimentary too.
This painting was created by starting with the background and no sketch. Only once it's dry do I sketch the bird on top and the paint it, it's a technique that's really enjoyable to paint, and stops me stressing about every little detail.
