It's that time of year when the puffins start returning to the sea after raising their broods. In the middle of spring, as they arrived back on land to their burrows, I was inspired to paint this puffin which is coming in to land. It's painted on 12x9 St Cuthberts Mill watercolour paper, using watercolours by Schmincke, Daniel Smith and Michael Harding. I've added blooms into the watercolour background for texture and light.
I honestly had so much fun painting this, they're such great birds. This is sold unframed and unmounted.
